How The Owl Got Large Eyes A long time ago in the ancient times, in the time before man walked the earth; there was a great dark forest that swept across the land. In the tops of the tremendously tall trees, over looking everything, there lived the king of the forest the majestic owl. Now back in those days owls had the magnificent features he has today, his silky feathers his sharp beak, but he had small squinty screwed up eyes, like dried currents. Jealously looking up at owl from the forest floor there was a bear, a mouse, a lizard, a fox and a lion, they all envied owl because of his great talons.
Owl knew that these four envied him, but what he didn’t know was that they had gathered together on the outskirts of the forest in a dimly lit cave. They were forming a plan to get owls talons. . . “I know” said lion, “we can trick him!” “By doing what?” asked bear. “I don’t know” mumbled lion “WELL THEN WHATS THE POINT?” roared bear. “We could have a competition” squeaked lizard. “Or we could chase him” grumbled lion. “NO” growled the now grumpy bear. “Maybe we could steal them while he is asleep” suggested fox and lizard together. “I don’t think it would work” mumbled bear. “I KNOW I KNOW!” squeaked the mouse, we can tease him!” “Cool, great, good idea mouse” chorused the animals. They were all being so loud that owl heard them. Wondering what was going on he swooped down from the trees to investigate. . . “What is going on?” screeched owl. “Nothing” mumbled the panic stricken bear. And that is when mouse went into action: “Hey owl,” squeaked the menacing mouse. “I cannot believe you like those claws, I mean they are hideous aren’t they?” “YEAH!” sang out the crowd. “There horrible!” squeaked mouse again.” You know, you should get rid of them.” Owls head was spinning; he could not believe what he was hearing. All the while his eyes were growing bigger and bigger with surprise. Then suddenly. . . POP! He opened his eyes and he could see clearly what they were up to! His eyes had become huge from his surprise! “Hey mouse!” he yelled “Are you hungry?” “Yes” said mouse suspiciously. “Good” screeched owl, “because I sure am!” He scooped him up and scoffed him down and that is how owl got large eyes, and his taste for mice! How The Cheetah Got His Spots Once, long ago before mans first steps on the African Plains, amongst the stunted, twisted, knarled bushes and scorching heat, there lived six animals. These animals were the merecat, the rhino, the scorpion, the python, the warthog and the terrible terrifying cheetah! Cheetah was truly terrifying as he killed for food and for fun. Cheetah was destroying whole families and the other animals knew that had to do something, and fast.
Cheetah was the best hunter because of his speed. The animals went to warthog. Warthog listened to their tale and thought for a moment and then replied, “scorpion can sting him and that will stop him from hunting you”. So scorpion knew what had to be done and went in search of cheetah. It wasn’t very long until he found cheetah finishing off an elephants child. Scorpion flashed into action using the dead elephant’s body to make sure cheetah didn’t see him. Finally he got close enough to sting cheetah and cheetah was in such pain that he could not move. Time past and ants began to nibble him all over. The nibbles became infected sores and then finally the infections began to scab.
Two weeks went by and cheetah slowly got better and finally he could run again. He ran and ran and as he did the scabs fell off leaving behind beautiful black spots. Cheetah realised he was now camouflaged and this made him the mightiest hunter of all.
And that is how the cheetah got his spots…
